PICO Question

  • Population: ICU patients with moderate/severe TBI

  • Interventions: Liberal transfusion strategy (<100g/dl)

  • Comparison: Restrictive transfusion strategy (<70g/dl)

  • Outcomes: Extended Glasgow Outcome Scale

Recruitment

Inclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria

  • Acute moderate to severe blunt TBI

  • GCS ≤ 12

  • Hb level ≤ 100 g/L

  • Already received transfusion in ICU

  • Contraindications to transfusions

  • GCS 3 with dilated fixed pupils.

  • Diagnosed dead by neurological criteria

  • Active life-threatening bleeding

  • Decision to withdraw

  • No fixed address
