Training and getting involved

Research is for everyone. Clinical research is how we know we're doing the best by our patients, and develop and refine treatments. Doctors, nurses, AHPs, and HCAs are all important team members.

Recognising potential participants

Anyone can identify potential patients .for research! When you admit a patient, have a glance at the list of active studies, and if you think any patient might potentially fit then let the DREEAM nurses know by calling (in hours) or texting (out of hours) 07595 284959.

Good Clinical Practice training

If you're interested in getting more involved (screening and recruiting patients, taking consent, or prescribing trial medications) then you'll need to complete GCP training. The online course can be accessed for free on the NIHR Learn website, and the certificate lasts for two years (but a refresher course can be accessed on the same site).

Contact DREEAM

Send your GCP certificate and up-to-date CV to the right DREEAM lead for the study you're interested in, or contact Lucy to get on the books and get involved in everything.

Associate PI scheme

The Associate Principal Investigator Scheme aims to develop junior doctors, nurses, and AHPs involved in research to become the PIs of the future. Several NIHR Portfolio studies allow you to become formally involved as an Associate PI, endorsed by the NIHR and several of the Royal Colleges. If interested in taking on an Associate PI role, speak to Dan Harvey.

MERCAT

MERCAT is the East Midlands' trainee-lead research group. If you're interested in research on a regional or national scale, or have a project you want to develop, it's worth getting in touch with them too.
